Window Repair Types: Hardware, Sashes and Frames
Most repair calls fall into a handful of jobs, and the price follows the part. These are the common ones, cheapest first.

Balance and spring repair
On single-hung and double-hung windows, springs hold the sash where you leave it. HomeGuide says they get damaged or out of balance with repeated use and usually need a simple readjustment.
- Balance or spring (HomeGuide): $50 to $100.
- Sash cord, balance or spring (Fixr): $75 to $500, depending on window type and size.

Locks, latches and casement cranks
A lock that won't catch or a crank that spins is a parts job. Both HomeGuide and Fixr put latch and hardware repair at $75 to $200, depending on the part and its quality. On an impact window, ask for the manufacturer's own part so the unit stays as it was approved.

Sash and track repair
When a sash binds or a roller window's track is bent, the part itself is replaced. HomeGuide prices sash or track replacement at $200 to $500; a loose sash may only need its screws tightened. Fixr adds that a window that is hard to operate can also point to frame movement or water damage, at $100 to $500 to correct. Sliding glass door rollers and tracks are a separate repair.

Window frame repair
HomeGuide names moisture and pests as what wears out older wood frames, and broken frames turn up in every material. It puts frame repair at $150 to $600 and notes rotted frames are typically replaced rather than repaired; Fixr's range is $150 to $800. If water has been getting in, Fixr prices repairing the surrounding damage at $150 to $1,000, and that work belongs with window leak repair.

Cracked glass and fogged panes
Glass work is often quoted alongside repairs. HomeGuide prices a cracked pane repair at $70 to $175 and a broken seal at $75 to $210. Replacing an insulated unit, laminated impact glass or a whole pane has its own page: see window glass replacement.

Why Pompano Beach homeowners call Pompano Windows
- One independent installer calls back, not a list of five
- The request costs you nothing
- Ask for approval numbers and design pressures on the quote
- Permit, removal and stucco patching priced in writing
Repair or Replace: Where the Numbers Tip
Repairs are cheaper per visit, but the two guides agree that age and condition change the math.
Repair vs new (HomeGuide)
most repairs $175 to $600, against $500 to $2,000 for a replacement window.Repair vs new (Fixr)
$400 average repair, against $800 average for a replacement that can reach $3,000.HomeGuide's rule
replace when the window is over 15 years old, in poor condition, or the repair passes half the price of a new unit.
In Pompano Beach that rule meets an old housing stock: the median home here was built in 1974, long before Florida's statewide building code. By that rule a failing 1970s window is a replacement candidate, not a repair. Ask the technician to price both on the same visit so you can see where your window falls.
Insurance adds a reason not to wait. The state's wind mitigation form says all openings must be in good condition, and a house with openings that need replacement doesn't qualify for the windstorm rate credits, whatever else has been upgraded. The wind mitigation form grades the weakest opening.
Repairing Impact Windows
Impact windows break differently, and their repairs carry an extra condition. Laminated glass is designed to stay in one piece when it cracks, so a damaged impact pane can look intact from across the room; have any crack checked before storm season. HomeGuide's table puts storm and hurricane window repair at $100 to $500.
Find the label
Florida's code has the label show the manufacturer, the model or series number and the approval number, which is what a technician needs to order matching glass, balances or hardware. Keep a photo of it, or of the approval on your old permit paperwork.Keep it approved
Florida only lets a product be sold as hurricane or impact protection under a state or Miami-Dade approval, so a repair should use parts that keep the unit as tested, not a generic substitute.Skip the film
HomeGuide notes anti-impact window film is not an approved method of hurricane protection in Florida; it isn't a fix for a damaged impact unit.Know when to stop
If the frame is bent or the anchors pulled loose in a storm, ask whether the opening needs a new approved, labeled HVHZ unit and a permit rather than a repair.
What Sets a Window Repair Price
Number of panes
HomeGuide: single-pane $80 to $200, double-pane $180 to $400, triple-pane or bay $500 to $1,000, four or more panes or a bow window $1,200 to $3,200.Window style
HomeGuide's table runs from $125 to $550 for a single-hung and $135 to $575 for a slider to $100 to $500 for a storm or hurricane window.Access
Windows that need scaffolding cost more (HomeGuide), and second-story work takes longer.Labor rate
HomeGuide quotes $45 to $90 an hour for a repair service; Fixr quotes $30 to $90.Urgency
Fixr says same-day or emergency labor can double or triple.Warranty
Fixr notes some manufacturers can void a warranty if a non-certified technician does the repair. Check your paperwork before anyone opens the unit.
Permits and Window Repair in Pompano Beach
Since House Bill 803, the city exempts some single-family repairs under $7,500 from a building permit, but the exemption has limits. It has to be requested through the city's ePlan portal before work begins, it doesn't apply to condos, duplexes or apartments, and its minor exterior repairs exclude window and door openings. Replacing an exterior window always needs a standard permit. A lock or balance swap stays inside the unit; reframing or replacing it changes the opening, so ask the technician which side of that line your job falls on before work starts.
