Window Glass Replacement Types
What the job costs depends on which glass the window has and why it failed. HomeGuide's 2026 guide sizes a medium window at 24 by 36 to 30 by 48 inches, and that size runs $350 to $600 for glass alone. The common cases:

Cracked or Broken Single-Pane Glass
Single glazing is the cheapest to replace because nothing is sealed or gas-filled. A small crack that hasn't spread can sometimes be filled with resin instead.
- Single-pane glass: $150 to $400 (HomeGuide)
- Small crack repair: $70 to $175 (HomeGuide and Fixr)
- Small pane under 24 by 24 inches: $150 to $350

Foggy Insulated Glass (Failed Seals)
Fog or droplets between two panes mean the edge seal has failed. HomeGuide warns that a window left that way can start to leak and damage the frame or sill. The usual fix is a new insulated glass unit set into the existing sash. Fixr's advice is to replace the whole unit when one pane of a double-pane window breaks.
- Double-pane glass: $300 to $800 (HomeGuide)
- Thermal seal repair: $75 to $210 (HomeGuide); $75 to $250 (Fixr)

Laminated and Impact Glass
Laminated glass bonds a plastic interlayer between two panes, so a cracked pane stays in the frame. That's how impact windows work. PVB (polyvinyl butyral) is the budget interlayer, EVA is another, and PVB combined with PET sits at the premium end, in Bob Vila's guide. On an impact unit the glass is part of the product approval: one Miami-Dade approval lists the specific interlayers its glass uses and terminates if the materials change.
- Laminated glass: $300 to $750 (HomeGuide); $275 to $625 (Fixr)
- Lamination premium: about $125 to $150 over the same plain pane (Fixr)

Tempered Safety Glass
Tempered glass breaks into small pieces instead of shards. HomeGuide says tempering a large pane adds $100 to $300. The 2023 Florida Building Code, Residential, section R308, makes safety glazing mandatory in these hazardous locations:
- Doors. All glass in swinging, sliding and bifold doors.
- Next to doors. Glass within 24 inches of either side of a door when its bottom edge is less than 60 inches above the floor.
- Large low panes. A pane over 9 square feet with its bottom edge under 18 inches and top edge over 36 inches above the floor, and a walking surface within 36 inches.
- Wet areas. Glass at tubs, showers, spas and pools when its bottom edge is less than 60 inches above the standing surface.
Tempered glass runs $300 to $750 in HomeGuide's table and $180 to $700 in Fixr's.

Sliding Door and French Door Glass
Door glass is always safety glazing. HomeGuide puts a foggy or damaged slider panel at $300 to $1,200 or more; Fixr prices French door glass at $200 to $400 a pane. Rollers, tracks and locks are covered under sliding glass door repair.

Why Pompano Beach homeowners call Pompano Windows

What Drives a Glass Replacement Quote
HomeGuide's breakdown of the rest of the bill:
Labor
30% to 60% of the total, at $50 to $125 an hour or $100 to $300 or more per window.Height
Large panes on a second or third floor can add $150 to $400 for extra hands or equipment.Disposal
$50 to $100 if the quote doesn't already include it.After hours
Emergency work can cost 50% to 100% more than standard rates.
New glass in an existing window still has to meet the 0.25 SHGC limit for replacement glazing in Broward's climate zone.
Glass Only, or the Whole Window?
HomeGuide puts glass-only work at 30% to 70% below the cost of a new window, which it prices at $450 to $1,500. Glass makes sense when the frame is sound. A rotted or warped frame, a discontinued insulated unit, or an impact window whose maker can't supply approved glass points to a full replacement, and in Pompano Beach that means a city permit. For water coming in around the frame rather than through the glass, see window leak repair.
